China’s nuclear industry prospects on December 26, 2008, it witnessed the first concrete pouring of Qinshan Phase 1+ at the Fangjiashan, Zhejiang Province. This is the third nuclear project being put into construction within two months. Now, there have been totally 25.3GW nuclear power capacities being under construction on Chinese mainland. Comparatively, the installed nuclear power capacity on the Chinese mainland is only 8.7GW since the first nuclear power plant being connected to the grid in the year of 1991.At the end of 2007, Chinese government shifted the nuclear power policy from “moderately developing” to “actively developing” and issued Medium-and Long-term Nuclear Power Development Program (2005-2020):

40GW in operation and 18GW under construction by the year of 2020. Less than six months later, a top government energy officer proposed a much higher goal: 70GW in operation and 30GW under construction by 2020. As the time enters November of 2008, the Chinese government speeds up the nuclear power plant construction as a part of stimulus program of 4 trillion RMB yuan (586 billion US dollars) to slow the economic downturn against the financial crisis.
Meanwhile, as a pioneering project for the future, the Experimental Fast Breeder Reactor project will be connected to the grid in 2009, although with only 20MW electricity capacity. The year of 2009 will also see the beginning of a nuclear power plant using high-temperature gas-cooled reactor technology in Shandong Province. As nuclear power program proceeding in China, it needs international cooperation in design, construction, equipment manufacturing and financial arrangement to achieve the ambious goal, we cordially invite you to join this exciting program!
